Democratic Structures & Inclusive Board Practices, Oh My!

Here are my workshop notes from day 2 of the EWCD. Be sure to checkout Shane's report backs on the keynote and plenary sessions and the workshops he attended, too.

Technologies of Collaboration and Cooperation

For me lunch is such an interesting time for collaborating with people about what they do and realising that there are so many different structures to building a cooperative - and so many varieties of cooperatives as well.

I felt inspired to have met a cleaning cooperative of five latino womyn. They established themselves as a cooperative to ensure better pay, benefits, and support one another. It was important for them to organise together and become their own bosses to ensure that they weren't being mistreated.

Eastern Conference for Workplace Democracy: Day 2

The second day of the Eastern Conference for Workplace Democracy (ECWD) encapsulated several workshops and also two really inspiring speeches. Brought to you by the Sofian / Shane reporting squad.

Being the Tech Squad (and random jobs squad) Sofian and I were asked to help out with technical support (in exchange for the free admission to the conference). So far it's been really good to help people with any technical difficulties that they may have. Shane has also taken great enjoyment in running around doing random jobs for Neily & crew.

You can find our notes on workshops in subsequent blog posts.

Eastern Conference for Workplace Democracy: Day 1

dans la catégorie

This is the first of three blogs about my experiences at the Eastern Conference for Workplace Democracy.

We rolled into UMBC (University of Maryland, Baltimore County) campus seperately on Friday morning, I suffered through an hour and a half long public transit trip and Shane breezed over in 15 minutes biking.

The morning was mostly taken up with finding our way around campus, getting registered and signed in, and helping the organisers with registration. Around 2, we headed off to the riding tour of Baltimore co-ops. Turns out we were "riding" a bus around town.
