Copenhagen Day 0 - "Core Summit"

dans la catégorie

Antoine, Omar and I started our core summit "morning" in the early afternoon, still recovering from jet-lag and last night's festivities. We made our way through downtown Copenhagen, past the Tivoli park to the site of the core summit, where a Drupal 7 critical issues core sprint was underway.

At the codesprint, we saw the critical issue count go from 34 to 18, with Antoine contributing a patch and removing one issue from the queue. Omar learned to patch and revert patches today, and Sofian slogging through the 150 comment history of an issue with JS and CSS caching.

The planned new Drupal.org version control permissions were announced: as part of the git transition, everyone will be able to gain commit access by simply agreeing to a few simple conditions (everything is GPL, etc.) but will not be able to make releases. Release access will be subject to the same review process as CVS access to Drupal.org is now. This should allow more people to gain more visibility for their contributions to Drupal and contrib, while keeping standards high for released code in the Drupal multiverse. There is a search on for code reviewers and other folks interested in helping out with this process.

On our way to a traditional Danish dinner, Omar and I had a chance to get advance info about the results of the 2012 Drupalcon poll. It doesn't look good for Montreal in 2012, although we are still waiting for the official word

Supper was platters of deep-fried pork, and tasted as good as it sounds. We had the good fortune to sit with some of the Dev Seed team and Moshe Weitzman, and talked Ubercart and Aegir release numbers. Adrian and Antoine defended their intent not to produce a 1.0 release without first having stabilized the API.

After supper, eggrolls were on the conversational menu. An eggroll is half of a dev-seed worker's day. They use the eggroll internally as the standard time-unit for their work. This works to encourage longer periods of sit-down time on contracts and projects.

On a more personal note, I have gotten to meet a bunch of big names in the Drupal issue queues, as well as finally seen Dries in the flesh.

Yesterday, Antoine and I spent the majority of the day in Christiania, Copenhangen's freetown. Several regulars of Christiania's former info-shop, 69, took us under their wings, and later invited us to join them at their teenaged kids punk show near the marina. We were both inspired by this example of a long-standing community organized on principles of mutual aid and solidarity.
